Weather journal: the notable weather events in Canada
The weather-canada.com weather journal does not publish a story a day. An article is written only when a tracked city crosses a precise threshold (listed below): that is rare, and it is meant to be. Every article is computed from the forecasts and gives its figures, its sources, the comparison with the normal and, when a nearby official station allows it, with its records. No more than 2 articles a week.

The thresholds that trigger an article
An event enters the journal only if it crosses one of these thresholds:
- Snow at low altitude : 10 cm of snow in 24 h in a city of more than 50,000 inhabitants below 800 m
- Storm gusts : a gust of at least 100 km/h in a city below 1000 m
- Heavy rain : a 24-hour rainfall above the 95th percentile of the nearest reference station (fixed threshold of 50 mm without a reference series, never below 30 mm)
- Heatwave : at least 3 days in a row at 30 °C or more, or 3 nights in a row at 20 °C or more
- Late or early frost : at least 2 cities of more than 20,000 inhabitants below 600 m at -2 °C or less, outside the normal frost season (late spring or early autumn)
- Pollen peak : a pollen at the "very high" level in the region, on the site's threshold scale
- Very high UV index : a maximum UV index of 8 or more in a city below 1500 m
